Women of Ukraine demand to give them a half of places in parliament

Women's public organizations insist on introduction of the quota in the form of 50% of places for women in the Ukrainian Parliament. The corresponding quotas have to provide women's constitutional rights to be presented on an equal basis with men in parliament and to create him opportunities to influence decision-making.
it was declared by the gender issues coordinator of Public council at the Interfractional deputy association "Equal opportunities" Larisa Kobelyanskaya.
"Considering what most of voters are women, and their interests aren't represented in power, in particular, in the Ukrainian Parliament, women's public organizations insist on introduction of 50% of a quota and demand from deputies to bring norm on which the CEC won't accept party electoral lists for registration if such quotas aren't observed. It is here too important to emphasize that formation of the list has to be carried out by the principle "one through one" for representatives of the both sexes list in a part through passage", - Kobelyanskaya has said.
She has added that for the first time quotas were published in the Ukrainian electoral laws in 2013. According to Kobelyanskaya, it was almost revolutionary and long-awaited decision.
"However our hopes for receiving by women at least of 30% of places in party lists were vain, the norm in the law is written out so that political forces easily could bypass and not execute it", - the coordinator has noted.
according to Kobelyanskaya, has so happened because of lack of sanctions against parties for violation of the quote principle of formation of lists.
"Any of parties hasn't been punished for non-compliance with quotas because there is no such legislative rule. Women have been presented in the list, but in a chanceless part", - Kobelyanskaya has noted.
According to information of the World Economic Forum, in 2017 in the world ranking of gender equality Ukraine took the 103rd place among 144 countries on the level of participation of women in political life. High level of representation of women in parliaments of the developed countries has been reached exactly thanks to quotas.
